The Rheinisches Landesmuseum TrierIN THE REALM OF SHADOWS

Experience history in a new way at the museum. The unusual centrally staged showing “In the Realm of Shadows” enables a 360° all-round experience amongst the huge grave monuments with this multimedia show about life and love in Roman Trier.

The fictitious story centres around a businessman, Gaius Albinius Asper, who is mourning his dead wife. Asper is standing at the grave of his beloved Secundia outside the gates of the city, when Mercury, the son of the gods, appears and offers to accompany him into the underworld. Asper does not hesitate for long, and thus begins the two unlikely companions' adventure-filled search for Secundia. Accompanied by the shrewd god, in the realm of shadows Asper comes across figures from Roman Trier, such as charioteers, wine merchants, vain matrons and many others, who occupy a kingdom of their own in the form of shadows as they await divine intervention.

State-of-the-art technology is used to project Asper's fantastic journey onto the original, metre-high grave monuments and wall areas, bringing the ancient reliefs to life.
