Rhineland-Palatinate State Exhibition 5 May to 21 October 2018 in Trier
The 5th of May 2018 marks the bicentennial of the birthday of this great scholar and revolutionary. This will be the first time that a historico-cultural exhibition will be dedicated to Marx’s life, his important works and multifaceted activities in the context of his time. In celebration of this occasion, the grand state exhibition KARL MARX 1818–1883. LIFE. WORKS. TIME. will be presented at two exhibition venues with different thematic priority.
Life. Works. Time.
Rheinisches Landesmuseum Trier
The Rheinisches Landesmuseum Trier will shed light on Karl Marx and his century under the heading “Life. Works. Time.” Marx’s intellectual and political career will be traced on an exhibition space of approximately 1,000 m2. The 19th century with its economic and social changes proved formative for the philosopher and subsequent economist. This eventful and tension-filled time was characterised by demands for freedom and democracy as well as industrialisation and urbanisation. The exhibition provides insights into Marx’s most important works and in doing so highlights which of the ideas of this pre-eminent analyst of his time remain relevant to this day.
Stations of a Life
City Museum Simeonstift Trier
The exhibition “Stations of a Life” at the City Museum Simeonstift in Trier will focus on Karl Marx as a human being, his family, the various whereabouts of his chequered life and important companions at home and abroad. The exhibition will illustrate on 600 m2 the biography of Karl Marx and provide a vivid image of the man behind the icon.
